Registration
Portugal typically refers to hosting as “local accommodation.” The Portuguese Tourism Board provides general information about rules for local accommodation and how to register.
National Registration rules apply to hosts in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

Taxes
The Municipality of Funchal is applying a Tourist Tax starting October 1st, 2024.
The Municipal Tourist Tax (MTT) is 2€ per night, up to a maximum of 7 consecutive nights, per person, per stay. The maximum amount to be paid by the guest is 14€ (for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights). The tax must be charged before or during the guest’s stay.
Everyone staying in Funchal who is over 12 and does not live in Madeira has to pay the tax to comply with the rules, except for guests with a disability level of 60% or higher.
