Short-term rental regulations

Registration

According to the Act of August 29, 1997 on hotel services and services of tourist guides and tour guides, entities providing accommodation for tourists must register in the relevant register of the relevant facilities.

If you are an entrepreneur and want to host in Gdańsk, you must be registered in the relevant register of uncategorized facilities maintained by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk. Uncategorized facilities include villas, inns, hostels, apartments, private rooms, private accommodations, and recreational centers providing accommodation services for tourists . Registering the facility is free of charge and available online.

The application for registration must be submitted before starting to provide accommodation services.

Traditional accommodation facilities such as hotels, motels, guesthouses, etc., need to be categorized and registered with the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, more information on the registration procedure for the facility along with the application for classification as a hotel facility is available on Voivodeship’s website.

All accommodation facilities must comply with the applicable building, sanitary, and fire safety requirements.

Payment

Registration of non-categorized facilities is free of charge.

Taxes

Hosts are obliged to collect a local fee from tourists staying longer than 24 hours in the city of Gdansk in the amount of PLN 3.22 per day.

Remember that if you are running a business, you are required to report the property for property tax at business-related rates.

Other contracts and rules

It is also important to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, such as leases, condo board or co-op rules, HOA rules, or rules established by tenant organizations. Please read your lease agreement and check with your landlord if applicable.
